The uber-high definition raw of Kemono Zume was released recently, and I had a chance to check it out. In my Summer 2006 anime preview, I figured this anime would resemble Blood+. My predictions been totally off this season…

Flag – Anime First Impressions
Flag was actually one of the first anime to air for the Summer season. I didn’t see a raw until a while back, and the first episode just got subbed a few days ago. I really didn’t think much of the anime, but I only had a picture to base that opinion on (irony!).
I got super psyched when I saw a bunch of new anime listed on Anidb for August. They’re mostly OVAs, but one extra TV series was added along with Kemono Zume. Seeing the art for Hanoka got me psyched! The psychitude only lasted until I actually started watching the anime, though…

Anime Nano Podcast – 4 Down, X To Go!
The Anime Nano gang and I just finished our 4th podcast! This one went pretty smoothly, I thought, and it lasted really long. Like twice as long as our previous record! Hinano was absent, but Problematic reluctantly took her place. She did a good job, even if she says she didn’t.
I wrote earlier about the differences between the School Rumble manga in both Japanese and English. Well, I finally finished the first volume after about two months! It wasn’t like I was in a real rush…
As I explained before, I took a unique approach to reading School Rumble. Basically, I took the Japanese language manga, tried reading it, and whenever I got stuck on something I used the English version to figure out what it said. I also used the English version to confirm stuff that I thought I understood.
I only had the patience to read about one chapter every day, and I didn’t read every day. This is the reason why it took me so long. Sure, I could’ve just read the English version in an hour, but what’s the fun in that? I learned a few kanji and vocab words, so I’d say it was worth it.
Night Head Genesis wins the funny engrish name anime award this season, closely edging out Coyote Ragtime Show. So what the heck is this anime about? Brothers. Psychic brothers.
Innocent Venus is an anime that falls into an ill-fated genre: Mecha. I’m not too big of a fan of mecha anime and the crappy cg that usually follows it. So is Innocent Venus guilty of such crimes, or does it successfully defend itself in the court of anime law?
So this anime first impressions post might be a little late for Keroro Gunso, which started airing in the Spring of 2004, but hey, this anime is really good! Plus there’s a reason I just recently started watching it again. It was reborn!

Afro Samurai is A-Fu-Ro
So I just read about this new anime called “Afro Samurai.” It stars Samuel L. Jackson as a Black Samurai who flips out and kills people for revenge. And he has an afro. Did I mention that I’m not making this up at all?
Between translating School Rumble manga, watching a ton of anime and programming websites, I found some time to just chill out with Yotsuba&! the manga. Yotsuba&! Volume 2 continues the adventures of the super naive green haired kid, Yotsuba.
