Anime + Manga Backlog: The Great Wall of Manga

anime-manga-backlog-small.jpg

In the short time that Basugasubakuhatsu has been around, it seems the site has seen quite a bit of popularity. One of the perks of being a semi-popular anime site is that companies will occasionally send me their titles to review. Basugasubakuhatsu started off as an anime first impressions site, but I guess it’s more of a review-centric one now, at least, during the months that new anime aren’t starting in Japan.

Anyway, while I was out of town, I got a pretty huge care package from DrMaster Publications and CMX Manga. I’ve had a backlog of stuff to review for a while now (and I’ve been getting through it) but now the backlog is ridiculous.

I stacked all of the anime and manga that I haven’t reviewed yet, and it’s pretty much the Great Wall of China, except in anime and manga form. Some of these are my own purchases (Nodame Cantabile, Keroro Gunso, Niea under 7, Haibane Renmei) but most are review copies. Don’t forget, I also ordered those 10 DVDs from RightStuf not too long ago… Yikes.

Now I’m asking for your help. Is there anything in particular in this wall that you’d like to see reviewed? I’ll try and do the requests first if there are any. There are a few DVDs that I can’t quite review yet since I don’t have the previous ones in the sets. If you can’t make out what the titles are from the picture, lemme know and I’ll write them out. But that’d take about as long as writing a few reviews…

Comic Party Vol. 1: Party Time! – Manga Review

comic-party-cover.jpg

I recall watching the Comic Party anime a long time ago. It was about this guy who wanted to become the greatest doujinshi artist in the world! Or something like that. Recently I got me some Comipa manga from CPM, so here comes a review!

Galaxy Angel Vol. 4 – Manga Review

galaxy-angel-4-cover.jpg

Galaxy Angel Volume 4 finally makes some progress in the relationship department by featuring a kiss! But it’s one of those anime “oops!” kisses. There’s also a lot of emo love tension between the angel-tai. Who will Takuto end up with?

Rizelmine – Manga Review

rizelmine-cover.jpg

Rizelmine was one of my most favorite anime ever. I watched it a really long time ago, probably around when I was only starting to get into anime. I was totally surprised to see that the manga was licensed in America by Tokyopop, as the subject matter seemed very un-American. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…

Buso Renkin Vol. 2 – Manga Review

In the second volume of Buso Renkin, the butterfly glasses guy is featured prominently. This obviously makes the volume the greatest in manga history. Or does it?

Broccoli Books’ New Manga Imprint: Boysenberry

boysenberry-petonduty_mockup.jpg

From a Broccoli Books press release:

Los Angeles, CA (February 21, 2007) – Broccoli Books has announced their boys love imprint name, Boysenberry Books, and will launch it with three titles. Delivery Cupid, Pet on Duty, and Sex Friend will be released starting in Summer 2007. The website for Boysenberry Books, boysenberrybooks.com will launch in March 2007.

I’m thinkin’ the name sort of a pun. Like, “Boys en berry?” Maybe not. Boysenberry seems like it’ll be Broccoli Books’ boy’s love counterpart to Seven Seas Entertainment’s STRAWBERRY yuri line of manga. I have to say that I’ll probably be reading more of the latter than the former…

With all these specializing imprints, I wonder when a meganekko manga imprint will emerge. All meganekko, all the time? Sounds pretty sweet to me.

Aoi House Vol. 1 – Manga Review

aoi-house-1-cover.jpg

One thing I’ve never really taken a look at is OEL manga. I guess there’s a million names for it now, including global manga, amerimanga, etc. I finally got to read Aoi House, a harem comedy set in an anime club.

Disgaea – Manga Review

disgaea-manga.jpg

I’m kind of a Disgaea maniac. I played the original PS2 Disgaea for like, 90 or so hours before stopping. I’ve also clocked quite a few hours on the sequel, Disgaea 2. I also went on a buying spree last year when I got some Disgaea figures and a prinny plushie. Then there was the Disgaea calendar I got, too. So it’s just natural that I read the Disgaea manga, right?
