Since it’s the holiday season and all, people are probably buying tons of gifts. If there’s an anime fan on your shopping list, chances are you might not know what they want. Well, Basugasubakuhatsu is here to save the day! I’ll be suggesting anime or manga related gifts for all kinds of otaku!
Since I’m having a karaoke contest, I figured I should write up a how to on recording the karaoke track. All you need is Audacity, the audio file that you want to record over, and a microphone. You might also want some headphones if you don’t have a headset mic.
Yep, that’s right. Today marks the 1 year anniversary of Basugasubakuhatsu Anime Blog. Over the course of one year, I’ve met (virtually) a lot of cool people, and learned a lot more about anime. I didn’t even know my tsunderes from my meganekkos a year ago!
Anyway, I wanted to mark the occasion by having a karaoke contest! Yeah, I know AnimeSuki just did one, but I read that a few people were regretting not entering that contest. Since I got a bunch of calendars that I won’t use from Broccoli Books, I figured I’d give ’em away in a super cool karaoke contest!
Now that all of the ninja know that the anti war pact is off, it’s time for everyone to flip out and start cutting off heads, right? Right!? Here’s my review of Basilisk Volume 3.
Volume 2 of Basilisk contains more ninjas, more fighting, and more oppai! But does that make the anime better? (yes)
Out of all of the 10 anime DVDs that I bought from that crazy Rightstuf sale, I only watched 1. I figured I should attempt to reduce my backlog, so I finally watched the first DVD of Niea Under 7.
So this Anime Nano Podcast, jpmeyer and Hinano were eloping or something. So I got Os and Problematic to co-host instead. People were asking for different guests, so there ya go. I think they did a good job of bringing a different perspective to the ‘cast.
We talked about general anime stuff, like some new licenses. The mail bag was answered with probably the highest amount of sidetracking ever. That’s cool though, it’s just how we roll in the Anime Nano Podcast.
Also, I kept on violating Problematic’s privacy so I had to go in later and bleep out her name and place of residency.

While Japan gets SHAFT-style Negima, the US is getting plenty of the original series. I recall watching this entire anime on fansub and thinking it was bad, yet irresistible at the same time. So can I really go back to XEBEC after getting a taste for SHAFT? (That sounded bad…)
So I’ve officially switched my hosting plan from Dreamhost to Media Temple. I wrote in my personal blog about how I was considering getting the “Grid Server” plan.
Basically, the gs is supposed to protect your site from things like the digg effect. They say:
The Grid’s on-demand scalability means you’ll always be ready for intense bursts of traffic and the growing audience resulting from your online success.
Now, the only way to actually test this claim is to get dugg. So let’s see if Media Temple isn’t full of hot air and stress test this baby! Digg the story here.

For the purposes of this test, WP-Cache is off.
So if this site does get dugg, and people have to resort to using the digg mirror, I guess the grid’s not all that it’s cracked up to be.
EDIT: So this finally hit the digg front page. Let’s see if the server can stay up. I think the diggers are up for the challenge…
Also, I don’t think I’ll be making any money on ads by doing this, since Digg users are usually not the type to click on ads. But hey, while I have your attention, check out Notecentric: For sharing class notes. It’s also on the same server and running on the 64mb rails container. Somehow I don’t think that could handle the load (I’d probably need to upgrade to at least 512MB of dedicated memory). But we’ll see!
EDIT 11:16PM: So the traffic has gone down considerably since the page hit the front page of digg. It’s on the second page now. The server seemed to do fine, besides the occasional database error here and there. Most people wrote saying that if they refreshed, it would work. Thanks to everyone who helped to “test” the server. You did a really good job of keeping track of how many diggs/how slow the server was at any given time.
So some people also think this is just a big commercial for Media Temple. That wasn’t my intention, but if you think that mt is a good host, then all the better. You can totally sign up using the referral link and it would help me pay for my own hosting. I suppose I could have mentioned it upfront, but I don’t think that would have kept people from complaining about it anyway.
Someone asked if I used all of my “GPUs.” I’m not even sure that Media Temple is showing its customers how many they use yet. At least, I haven’t found any way to check. I’m sure they’ll approve of my experiment once I explain it to them. I hope.
